Verran kids vs Police

In week 7 some police members came to Verran to play a game of soccer with the seniors. The rest of the school came to support our peers - although some of us were cheering for the police! In the end Verran won 3-2. We enjoyed spending extra time in the sun and giving the police a high-five at the end.

The Squirrel and the Hawk - creative writing

WALT write in the first person.

WALT use language features, such as adjectives in our writing.

We watched this clip and re-told the story from either the hawk or squirrel's point of view. Miss Watson typed them out for us and then we illustrated them. Enjoy!

What we love about Enviro

Now that we have become familiar with our class iPads and some of the apps, we were able to venture out to the enviro gardens and school grounds to take some photos. This task integrates our mini-beast inquiry topic, enviro (science) and ICT. We are working in groups to create an enviro poster. The posters will be put around the school to encourage more students to come to enviro at lunch time.

Maths in Room 3

Sometimes we practise maths on the mat altogether. Here is a photo of us using our whiteboards instead of our books, and a photo of us doing our basic facts speed test.  We have been learning to improve our basic facts. If we find it tricky, we may need to count on from the bigger number using our fingers, other times we can round numbers up or down to make doubles or tidy tens, and sometimes we have memorised a basic fact and know it instantly!

Butterfly Art

We have been looking at the butterfly anatomy as part of our insect topic for Inquiry. When drawing a butterfly we had to try to include to following: head, thorax, abdomen, forewing, hindwing, antennae,  proboscis, and six legs.

This task was integrated with visual art, where we looked at hot and cold colours, using pastels. We created the abstract background by doing a scribble and colouring in each section of the scribble a different colour.

Lenny the Lemur... or should I say Party Lenny!

Lenny LOVES spending extra time with us on the weekend. Here is a photo of Lenny enjoying his Saturday night with John and his sister.
Who will have Lenny next???

Beach Education Trip

In week 3 we went to Mairangi Bay with Room 4 and 13. We learnt the basic sun safety rules, SLIP, SLOP, SLAP, WRAP and SLIDE. We also learnt to swim between the flags, have an adult watch us in the water at all times, and to raise our hand up high if we are in trouble. Our favourite beach activities were building sandcastles, playing octopus and swimming with the boogie boards.
